Rural women in the U.S. experience persistent inequities in breast cancer (BrCa) screening access, yet rural populations are often treated as a monolith in research and practice. This study serves as a proof of concept by examining how contextual heterogeneity across rural settings in South-Central Washington shapes screening behaviors and access, emphasizing the intersection of structural, cultural, and environmental factors through a community-informed lens.

This paper describes a randomized control trial of the Community Participation Transition after Stroke (COMPASS) intervention for stroke survivors returning home from inpatient rehabilitation. The results showed that COMPASS was low cost and effective in improving stroke survivors’ self-rated performance and satisfaction and in reducing environmental barriers to daily activities.

We employed a participatory, observational design, incorporating a five-month crowdsourcing open call followed by a designathon event, to find music-based ways to promote sustainable preventive practices. The designathon produced various music genres with lyrics deemed feasible and socio-culturally appropriate.
