Preliminary impact of public health messaging on HPV vaccine uptake among adolescent girls and young women living with HIV in central Uganda

This study assessed the impact of public health messaging on HPV vaccine uptake among adolescents and young women living with HIV in central Uganda. Using a mixed-effects logistic regression model, we found that the intervention was effective in promoting HPV vaccination over time. This study highlights the importance tailored public health messaging.

Strategies to improve healthcare team communication structure and quality in resource-variable childhood cancer hospitals (TeamTalk): a study protocol.

Healthcare team communication is essential to high-quality childhood cancer care, especially during high-acuity events such as clinical deterioration and in resource-variable settings, where supportive interventions to resolve deterioration are less available. Communication quality has traditionally been understudied in these settings, and there is a notable lack of communication interventions that are appropriate and feasible in settings across resource levels. We propose addressing this challenge in this study protocol, which will co-develop and pilot a multi-level intervention to improve communication and outcomes for children receiving cancer treatment.

Strategies to improve healthcare team communication structure and quality in resource-variable childhood cancer hospitals (TeamTalk): a study protocol

This paper describes a study protocol to develop and test an intervention to improve healthcare team communication, a field that currently lacks effective interventions. This work will provide a foundational understanding of modifiable determinants of communication that impact healthcare delivery in resource-variable settings.

Patterns of polysubstance use disorder among human trafficking survivors: A latent class analysis

Survivors of human trafficking are at risk for substance use disorder. This analysis of trafficking survivors’ emergency department visits found that survivors could be classified into three groups by their probability of having alcohol, opioid, cannabis, stimulant or other use disorders. Those with greater probability of multiple use disorders had greater likelihood of hospitalization.

Setting Research Priorities To Support Arabic-speaking Newcomer Students Resettled in the US: Findings from a Consensus Ranking Activity.

Schools serve as a critical site of inclusion for Arabic-speaking refugee and immigrant adolescents as they face unique challenges upon resettlement in the US. This study employs a consensus methodology and ranking procedure with key stakeholders (n = 25) to identify research priorities for supporting newcomer students and families. Results from the consensus activity suggest five key priority areas for future research: (1) exploring culturally responsive psychosocial strategies, (2) meaningful parent engagement and teacher support, (3) longitudinal and context-based approaches, (4) language learning, and (5) policy impacts on newcomer student outcomes. Findings can inform collective learning efforts toward improving school-based supports for refugee and immigrant student populations.

Trends in hallucinogen-related emergency department and hospital admissions, 2016 to 2023

Hallucinogen use in the United States has increased in recent years amid shifting cultural attitudes and medicalization. It remains unclear whether these evolving cultural, medical, and policy contexts are reflected in detectable changes in hallucinogen-related emergency department and inpatient admissions at the population level.

Dissemination of a facilitation strategy to de-implement unnecessary post-operative antibiotics at children's hospitals: The Optimizing Perioperative Antibiotic in Children (OPerAtiC) trial 2.0.

Excessive postoperative antibiotic use in pediatric surgical patients contributes to antibiotic resistance and increases the risk of Clostridioides difficile infection. Despite established guidelines recommending limited postoperative antibiotic duration, many hospitals struggle with de-implementation. This study aims to disseminate and evaluate the impact of a combined strategy to reduce unnecessary postoperative antibiotic use which combines enhanced antimicrobial stewardship program facilitation, defined as a set of actions to enable implementation, combined with order set review and modification. This multi-center study builds on an initial stepped wedge cluster randomized trial involving nine children's hospitals, where facilitation training improved implementation of surgical prophylaxis guidelines and improved post-operative antibiotic use.
