We launched the Stimulating Training and Access to HIV Research Experiences (STAR) program to establish a pathway for underrepresented minority students to engage in such research.

Financial toxicity and satisfaction with cancer treatment among patients with multiple myeloma: an analysis of the MMRF’s CureCloud initiative

This study explored financial toxicity and its association with treatment satisfaction among a longitudinal cohort of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Over one-third of patients with MM were considered to be experiencing financial toxicity and financial toxicity was associated with reduced satisfaction with MM treatment.

Residential Point-of-Use (POU) Filters Can Be Used to Monitor Multiple Metals in Drinking Water

This study evaluated the potential of three widely used residential point-of-use filters to serve as volume-integrated monitoring devices for multiple metals. We demonstrated that point-of-use filters can be used as multipurpose tools to both remove multiple metals from drinking water and monitor incoming water quality over the duration of filter use.

The Health Implications of US Federal Changes to Non-Health Structures and Policies.

Since the election of President Donald J Trump, the US federal administration took considerable steps to weaken public health infrastructure and agencies; all of this is likely to have an impact on population health. Less discussed have been the health impacts of ostensibly "non-health" policies that are also being implemented by the current US federal administration. Drawing on the social determinants of health framework, we analyze how policies across domains-environmental regulation, food assistance, housing, immigration, and economic policy-fundamentally shape population health outcomes. The administration's sweeping deregulatory agenda, including rollbacks of environmental protections, cuts to nutrition assistance programs, and immigration enforcement policies, represents a systematic threat to the policy infrastructure that supports population health. These changes threaten to widen health gaps and undermine decades of progress in addressing the root causes of poor health. The analysis demonstrates that in evaluating contemporary threats to population health, we must look beyond traditional health sector policies to understand how the broader policy environment shapes the conditions in which people live, work, and thrive.

Brugia malayi and other filarial parasite species in animals in areas endemic for lymphatic filariasis in Belitung District, Indonesia

Brugia malayi, the major cause of lymphatic filariasis in Indonesia, was thought to have been locally eliminated in Belitung district, but in 2021 filarial infections were identified in several villages. This study showed that animals in Belitung are commonly infected, underlining the need for targeted control measures to prevent zoonotic transmission.
