PhD student studies how urban design can improve public health

Milena Franco Silva, a PhD student in Public Health Sciences at the School of Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis, has received a scholarship from Viva Brasil STL, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting Brazilian culture and community engagement in St. Louis. The scholarship supports Brazilian students pursuing higher education and recognizes Franco Silva’s commitment to public health research and community involvement.
Originally from Curitiba, Brazil, Franco Silva earned a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning before shifting her focus to public health. Her research explores how urban design can foster healthier cities, and she has remained active in the Brazilian Catholic community in St. Louis, contributing to its music ministry. The scholarship highlights her dedication to both academic excellence and cultural connection.
