Alvitta Ottley, PhD, is an associate professor of computer science & engineering at McKelvey School of Engineering. Ottley leads interdisciplinary research at the intersection of data visualization, human–AI collaboration, and visualization psychology, developing methods and tools that improve how people interpret, trust, and act on data. Her work spans health communication, public decision-making, intelligence analysis, and scientific discovery, with a particular focus on visualization literacy, design guidelines, and the ethical, effective communication of complex information to diverse audiences.
