PS2 Policy Table: Rural Health Transformation Goals, Opportunities, and Future Policy Possibilities

The U.S. Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) represents an unprecedented five-year, $50 billion federal investment designed to help states strengthen sustainable access to care and improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes in rural America. As states begin implementing this initiative, we take the opportunity to speculate on how these investments may improve access to care, strengthen the healthcare workforce, leverage emerging technologies, and build sustainable systems that endure beyond the grant period.
Our expert panel will weigh in on common state goals such as: advancing prevention and population health through clinical/community partnerships, strengthening relationships between rural and urban healthcare providers, creatively addressing workforce shortages, harnessing AI and other technologies, and creating lasting value-based care models. The panel will also examine what additional state and federal policy changes may be needed to ensure the program achieves meaningful, long-term improvements in rural health outcomes and healthcare sustainability.
