Policy and Structural Solutions (PS2)

Our goal

We endeavor to understand how health policy affects people, and develop solutions to achieve impactful systems change, by fostering a vibrant ecosystem of researchers, practitioners, and communities to co-create innovative research.

Areas of focus

Health policy design and evaluation

We develop, test, and evaluate models of financing, regulation, and coverage across federal insurance programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, and other payor systems, toward increasing access and improving efficiency and equity.

Social structures and health equity

Laws, funding systems, and governance structures affect inequities in health outcomes and access. We examine how such social structures affect health and create or sustain inequities, and how they can be changed to improve health and promote equity.

Systems-level change

We aim to identify and scale systems-level innovations to strengthen public-service delivery and cross-sector coordination, toward spurring effective institutional change.

Policy translation and dissemination

Moving from knowledge to action, we build frameworks with the aim of translating complex evidence into actionable policy recommendations for diverse audiences.

Rural and regional health systems

With a focus on place-based solutions, we conduct applied research addressing disparities in rural and regional health infrastructure and outcomes.

High-functioning health systems

High-functioning health systems share certain characteristics: accessibility, affordability, quality, equity and community engagement. We study why and how some systems work well so we can understand how to improve all health systems and the health of communities they serve.
