Does Health Research Reach Washington? A Conversation on Evidence, Policy, and the Gap Between Them
The second Better Ways of Knowing convening examines what types of evidence are needed to influence policy decisions. Over a day and a half, leaders across research, policy, and practice gather in Washington, DC to discuss a persistent problem: the role of universities in producing public health research, and the gaps to address to help evidence inform policy better. The convening closes with a public panel on the same topic at CSIS, streamed online.
Better Ways of Knowing is a multiyear initiative led by the Healthier Futures Lab at WashU Bursky School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research. The initiative’s aim is to rethink how public health knowledge is generated, communicated, and translated into action. The project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, brings together scholars, policymakers, community leaders, and practitioners to examine the systems that shape health science. Together, they explore how to produce evidence that is rigorous, timely, and consequential for improving population health and advancing health equity.
