It is with joy that today we announce a transformative partnership between the Bursky family and WashU, to create the Andrew M. and Jane M. Bursky School of Public Health.
As many of you who have been on this journey with us know, WashU School of Public Health emerged in January 2025 from two decades of growth in public health science and education at WashU. Over the years, this has included faculty engaging in population health science and scholarship; the Institute of Public Health; a public health program in the Brown School; public health programming generously supported by friends and supporters; and students, staff, faculty, and leaders who have believed in the potential of this work, setting the stage for today. To all who have been part of leading us to this moment: thank you.
Today marks a transformational commitment to the work of public health at WashU. Through the Bursky School, we aspire to produce a science of consequence that points to how we can create a world that ensures all can live longer, healthier lives. We aspire to train the next generation of leaders and scholars in the field, to prepare those who will carry forward this mission in decades to come. We aspire to partner generously — with colleagues across the university, throughout the public health community, and with all sectors that promote health and can make change happen. And, centrally, we aspire to accelerate our work that creates healthier local, national, and global communities.
